BIVY

A CLIMB, AND THE JOURNEY HOME.

In 2021, ACR Electronics acquired Bivy, a Utah-based company specializing in retail-ready satellite communication devices designed to connect seamlessly with smartphones. Founded by Vance Cook, a seasoned entrepreneur and early innovator in interactive technology, Bivy was born from his personal passion for mountain exploration and the need for reliable off-grid communication.

This shared commitment to innovation and safety made Bivy a natural fit within ACR’s portfolio, opening new opportunities for growth in the evolving satellite communication market and strengthening ACR’s position as a leader in connected adventure technology.

BIVY

THE CHALLENGE

At the time of acquisition, Bivy was still operating as a lean start-up, with fewer than ten employees and all manufacturing outsourced overseas. Overnight, it gained access to the full production, marketing, and distribution infrastructure of ACR Electronics—a major shift in scale and capability.
Before Bivy could fully leverage these new resources, the brand required careful integration and refinement to meet ACR’s regulatory, manufacturing, and quality standards. This involved developing new market-ready materials across multiple regions and languages, maintaining Bivy’s own authenticity while aligning it with its parent company’s established brand.

Simultaneously, ACR adapted key insights from Bivy’s satellite communication experience, transitioning from traditional end-user products to a modern subscription-based model—bringing its own set of strategic and operational challenges.

Strategy

Review, integration, and refinement—taking a holistic view of Bivy’s market position to identify strengths, expand opportunities, and modernize existing assets. As well as preserving Bivy’s established brand authenticity while positioning it for scalable growth.
This approach ensured a seamless transition for existing customers while laying the foundation to engage new audiences, particularly within the emerging Value-Added Reseller (VAR) market.

Execution

Streamlining packaging for cost efficiency and faster turnaround, while developing region-specific marketing materials and retail displays to support global expansion. Close collaboration with the Bivy team ensured all assets met regulatory standards and aligned with growth objectives, with particular focus on crafting clear, customer-driven messaging to communicate Bivy’s subscription-based model effectively.

Results

Within a year of acquisition, Bivy evolved from a niche outdoor brand into a multi-market presence spanning Aviation, Marine, and Outdoor sectors, supported by a strong VAR strategy. Sales grew severalfold, fueled by expanded market reach and improved operational efficiency. Additionally, Bivy’s manufacturing was successfully transitioned to the United States, strengthening production control and reinforcing brand reliability.
