ACR Electronics specializes in developing, building and selling life saving equipment to a wide range of markets and lifestyles. Originating as a light manufacturer, they have expanded in the last 60 years to also sell emergency beacons (EPIRBs/PLBs), searchlights, electronic flares, ditch bags, and satellite communicators.

Having the opportunity of working at ACR Electronics directly with their marketing, sales and engineering departments since 2016. Initially handling all their graphic design projects and later expanding to building an in-house team to develop global scale content creation initiative and trade show responsibilities. We had the unique opportunity to help market and develop product some the largest outdoor and marine distributors and dealers in the world.

THE CHALLENGE

With more than 60 years of history and a strong market presence in safety equipment, the challenges are both external and internal. Externally, marketing to an audience that often underestimates risk presents a unique communication hurdle. Emphasizing safety without invoking fear or “worst-case scenarios” requires a delicate balance to avoid disengaging potential customers or associating the brand too closely with negative outcomes. Internally, a long-established organization can face the natural challenges of maturity — where teams may be somewhat removed from the real-world activities their products serve. Combined with an evolving demographic and increasing regulatory complexity that can slow innovation, the brand faces the important task of renewing its relevance and sharpening its competitive edge.

Strategy

Reevaluate the current and emerging market landscape to identify opportunities for both physical and digital expansion. Refresh product design, packaging, and display strategies to present a more contemporary and engaging brand image. Shift messaging to emphasize a lifestyle-driven, empowering narrative rather than a risk-focused one. Ensure all communications are guided by clear objectives and strong calls to action, creating purposeful engagement across every customer touchpoint.

Execution

Implement new branding elements across all customer-facing and internal presentation materials to create a unified and modern identity. Expand content production—particularly video—to strengthen engagement and visibility across social media platforms. Pursue international growth in key markets such as Europe and Australia, while increasing reach through major e-commerce channels like Amazon. Drive innovation through the development of next-generation 406 MHz beacon technology, including NFC integration that enables seamless interaction between smartphones and safety devices. Reinforce this evolution with a more prominent presence at industry trade shows to elevate public awareness and position the brand as a leader in its field.

Results

Achieved consistent year-over-year growth since 2016, accompanied by industry recognition through prestigious honors such as the METS DAME and MIBS Innovation Awards. Expanded the existing product portfolio with new and enhanced offerings, strengthening market reach and brand diversity. Established a dedicated e-commerce division that, through the strategic integration of social media and traditional marketing, successfully lowered barriers to entry and opened new channels for customer engagement and sales.
